Praying the Pandemic

posted on May 13

Though in person worship is limited, Pastor Jo (Whittier UMC) has initiated ministry through an imaginative lens. She had a friend who was struggling with death and fear of death during the pandemic. Around the same time, she noticed conversation on social media about the lack of a public space to mourn those who have died during the pandemic. To meet those two needs, she started a Facebook page called Praying the Pandemic. She prays at noon Monday-Saturday for specific groups impacted by COVID-19, such as medical professionals, leaders, teachers, and essential workers and around 8pm for those who have died from the coronavirus.

If you'd like to participate in the daily prayers, grab a candle, and like and follow Praying the Pandemic. If you know have lost someone or would like to raise up someone by name, reach out to the page via facebook messenger or by commenting on a post. You can also write or lead a prayer if you'd like to get involved in this new online ministry.
